What Makes It Different

A Mixed-Material Body, Not a Steel One

The Model 3 body is a deliberate mix of materials rather than a single one, and that decides most of what happens in a repair. The front crash structure and several front components are aluminum, while much of the passenger cell and rear structure is high-strength and ultra-high-strength steel. The two are not interchangeable in the shop: aluminum needs its own tooling, its own consumables, and separation from steel work to avoid the cross-contamination that causes corrosion later, and the high-strength steels have limits on heat and on how many times a section can be reshaped before it has to be replaced instead. A shop working from a generic method rather than Tesla's published procedure for your VIN cannot know which is which, and guessing in either direction leaves the car weaker than it left the factory.

Rear Bumper and Fascia

The single most common Model 3 repair, usually from low-speed traffic. The cover carries parking sensors and the rear camera housing sits above it, so the job is a refinish and a recalibration rather than a refinish alone. Quarter Panels and Doors

Side impacts and parking damage. The rear quarter is welded structure rather than a bolt-on panel, so a straightforward-looking dent can mean sectioning to a documented seam, and the repeater camera in the front fender means door and fender work often triggers calibration too.

Front Fascia and Aluminum Structure

Front-end hits reach the aluminum crash structure quickly, and the forward-facing camera cluster behind the windshield sits directly in the affected zone. Measuring the structure against factory specification comes before any cosmetic work, not after.

Glass and Windshield

The Autopilot camera cluster mounts to the windshield. Replacing that glass is a documented trigger for recalibration on a Tesla, and getting the glass replaced somewhere that cannot recalibrate is one of the more common ways a Model 3 ends up with driver assistance quietly out of specification.

The Step That Gets Skipped

Recalibration Is Part of the Repair

A Model 3 reads the road through a cluster of cameras behind the windshield, cameras in the B-pillars, repeaters in the front fenders, a rear camera, and ultrasonic sensors in the fascias on most cars. Nearly all of those live behind or inside a panel that gets damaged in a collision. Move a camera by a couple of degrees and the car still reports no fault, still drives, still looks finished, and is measuring lane position and following distance from the wrong reference. Tesla treats recalibration after structural or glass work as a requirement, and we carry it out in house with the correct targets and floor space, document the result, and hand you the paperwork with the vehicle. OEM Parts, and Usually Next Day

We use genuine Tesla OEM parts on certified repairs, exclusively. On a mixed-material body that is not brand preference: an aftermarket structural part with different alloy properties changes how a crash structure absorbs energy, which is not something you can see on a finished car. Being a Tesla Approved Collision Center also means access to roughly 90% of Tesla parts by the next day, which is the main reason our timelines tend to be shorter than customers expect from Tesla repair generally. Most Model 3 repairs run about 7 to 10 business days once parts are in hand. Structural work, multiple panels, or a VIN-specific part on backorder push that out, and we will tell you which of those you are looking at when the repair plan is approved rather than after. A certified facility is the one with access to genuine Tesla OEM parts, the repair procedure published for your specific VIN, technicians trained on the aluminum and ultra-high-strength steel in that body, the separated tooling that keeps aluminum and steel work apart, and the equipment to recalibrate the cameras and sensors afterward. On cosmetic work the gap is narrow. On structural work, glass, or anything behind a sensor, it is the difference between a repair and something that looks like one.

A collision repair does not void your vehicle warranty as a whole, and it is worth being clear about that because the opposite gets repeated a lot. What can happen is narrower and still expensive: if a repair is carried out incorrectly or with parts that do not meet specification, damage traced back to that work is not the manufacturer's responsibility.
